The 2021 Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) Chennai round has been postponed due to heavy rains, the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) has announced. The rally was scheduled to take place between July 31 and August 1, 2021, and would mark the opening round of the 2021 INRC. The South India Rally has been delayed for the second time this year after being originally scheduled to take place in April. However, the second wave of the pandemic forced the organisers to push the dates.

In a statement, the FMSCI said, “You have all been waiting to take part in the South India Rally which has been one of the best-organised events on the National Rally calendar; our club has continuously made all efforts to make it happen for all of you and we had got everything in place for the month-end event. Unfortunately, the rain gods have played spoilsport and it’s been raining heavily in Chennai for the last few days, with record-breaking rains which are expected to continue for a few more days.”

“In the best interest of the participants & to avoid further uncertainties, the month-end rally is postponed. We are in close contact with the federation & promoters to fix fresh dates which will be announced subsequently after assessing the stages the next week,” the statement added.

The South India Rally will begin at the MMRT outside Chennai and then move deep into the countryside

The organisers and the FMSCI will assess the situation and announce new dates for the rally accordingly. The INRC continues to be promoted by the Champions Yacht Club. It will start at the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) in Sriperumbudur on the outskirts of Chennai and then move towards the countryside.

The 2021 INRC calendar was scheduled to begin in April and comprised six rounds including rallies in Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Delhi-NCR, Hampi and Nagaland. The organisers will be looking to check all the rounds on the calendar as planned in the remaining months of 2021.
