All three sub-segments – passenger cars, utility vehicle and vans have recorded growth in sale last month, with the UV segment witnessing a solid increase of 45.35 per cent.
The passenger vehicle (PV) segment has recorded a growth of 17.92 per cent in February 2021 selling 281,380 units as compared to 238,622 units in the same month last year. Sales of passenger cars went up by 4.43 per cent at 155,128 units sold in February 2021 as compared to 148,541 units sold a year ago. Sales of SUVs saw and uptick of 45.35 per cent selling 114,350 units last month as compared to 78,674 units in the same month a year ago. Even the van segment has recorded an increase in sales of 4.34 per cent selling 11,902 units last month as compared to 11,407 units sold a year ago.
Sales of two-wheelers in the same period went up by 10.20 per cent at 14,26,865 units as compared to 12,94,787 units sold a year ago in the same month. The scooter segment has recorded an uptick of 10.09 per cent selling 464,744 units as compared to 422,168 units, where the motorcycle segment has recorded an increase of 11.47 per cent selling 910,323 units as compared to 816,679 units sold a year ago. Sales of Mopeds in the same month went down by 7.81 per cent at 55,802 units as compared to 51,445 units sold in the same month a year ago. Sales of electric two-wheelers went up by 155.80 per cent at 353 units as compared to 138 units sold a year ago.
The three-wheeler segment has recorded a sales decline of 33.82 per cent in February 2021 selling 27,331 units as compared to 41,300 units sold in the same month a year ago. Sales of quadricycles too recorded a slump of 85.45 per cent selling just 8 units as compared to 55 units sold a year ago. Overall, sales in the domestic market recorded a growth of 10.21 per cent selling 17,35,584 units as compared to 15,74,764 units sold a year ago.
